FAQs

What is the font of the sound for /a/?

The 'a' font was/is from the original version - when the only font in print was Times New Roman. So, the kids learned what they would commonly see. Most kids don't have a problem with this and can easily make the transition between this form and the others they encounter. Other kids simply need it pointed out once or twice. In Kinder classes, it sometimes helps if the kids practice and print the /a/ as the 'a' as opposed to say an Arial format. Most these kinds of questions are bigger issues with the teachers than the students (like the fact there is no capital letter at the beginning of sentences - done to avoid having to simultaneously teach more than one 'font' presentation).
